I know this is a dumb question but can some one help me understand why SAOS bottles go for so much. I thought it was due to being discontinued but I’m seeing shelves of it consistently at local stores. Surely it’s a batch thing then? Or is it a matter of MGP vs house juice?

    Matthew,

You are on the correct path. SAOS initially bought several barrels of MGP produced (Indiana) bourbon to release in their Old Scout brand. They found some really good barrels, and the private store picks were the best of that batch.  This was around 2015-2017.  Their new releases are made with stocks they purchased from Dickel in Tennessee. SO far, the bourbon while decent, is very lacking compared to the cream of the crop MGP juice from the 2015-2017 era.

Also, ut wasn't just SAOS that were very high due to some amazing barrels coming out of MGP. OKI store picks and Blaum Bros store picks go for similar amounts. However all those are discontinued as the top end MGP bourbon barrels seems to be dried up.
